A course you work through on the board

The course uses written explanations, worked examples and positions to solve. You can start with the rules or explore later topics at your own pace. Some lessons are reading-only; others include replay or practice. This is a self-paced course, without a promised rating gain or chess title.

How we check the material

Game scores are checked for legal moves, recorded endpoints and consistent results. Historical claims use linked sources. A technical score check is distinct from a full teaching or historical review. Selected games include teaching annotations; the wider archive also contains factual game notes.

Chess stories use a separate editorial review and publication step. We distinguish recorded moves from analysis and identify disputed historical anecdotes.

We welcome corrections to explanations, scores and historical details. Send a correction.
